Westville?s town board members and various departments communicate with each other, pertinent departments in Indianapolis, as well as other small towns around the state thanks in large part to their agreement with CSInet Internet Access. This agreement allows Westville?s town hall, police department, water treatment plant, and water works plant high-speed wireless access to the Internet. In return, Westville allowed CSInet to use their water tower to hold the broadcast antenna. ?It has been a win-win situation for both CSI and our town,? stated Ronald Stallings, Westville town board member.
Communicating with others is very important to this small town and use of the Internet to do so is much faster and more reliable than playing phone tag. Various police agencies, the Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and the town?s attorney are also among those with whom the town stays in touch electronically. Many state forms can be downloaded from the state?s website saving mailing time and cost. Before making purchases, department heads and council members research products and companies online enabling them to make more informed decisions.
CSI also developed, hosts, and maintains a website for the town which hopefully will become a tool to promote the community to encourage growth and development. In addition, CSI provides adult content filtering and spam filtering services for the town and its residents who take advantage of having high-speed wireless available to them.
Small towns such as Westville could probably not afford wireless broadband on their own but since they had something to offer in return, both parties are happy with the outcome.
