CSInet Internet Access is now offering VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) so you can take advantage of new technology and make your telephone calls over the Internet. Using this method will most likely cost you less money than you currently pay for long distance charges since there are no access fees. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection, a regular phone, and an adapter (or gateway) that connects to your broadband modem – that’s it for equipment!
Many features are included for both residential and business customers: caller ID, call waiting, three-way calling, voice mail, call forwarding, call transfer, call return, and international call block. You can even keep the same land-line phone number you now have if you prefer. If you move, your phone number can go with you. You just take your adapter to your new home, plug it into a high-speed Internet connection and a phone, and begin receiving all your calls immediately. Think of the time you’ll save without the need to notify family, friends, and business associates of a new phone number! Nor will you need to worry about missing any calls or losing touch with someone.
Doug Konieczny, CSInet President and CEO, says his favorite option is the ability to get a virtual phone number. Say you have a relative in Florida that you call frequently or they call you often. You can get a Florida phone number piggy-backed on your local number, making Florida calls local for both you and your Florida relatives.
CSInet Internet Access provides an IP analog telephone adaptor that plugs directly into your cable/DSL modem or home router. This includes advanced Quality of Service features so your voice service still sounds good in time of high network traffic. You can be connected to the Internet, send and receive email, upload or download files while you talk.
VoIP converts conversation to packets of data that travel over the Internet similar to the manner that an email does. When they get to the end user, the packets get “reassembled” and converted to sound. That’s different than a typical phone call, which is converted into electronic signals that move through a network of switches.
“The key for VoIP,” Konieczny says, “is the broadband connection. A good, quality, high-speed connection is required for VoIP to work to its full potential. CSInet’s high-speed wireless service is a fit for VoIP as the upload speeds for CSInet wireless can be set higher than DSL or cable broadband access.” CSInet’s VoIP service will work, however, with most any DSL, cable, or wireless Internet provider.
Service thru CSInet Internet Access is available in 46 states with rates for businesses beginning at $39.99 a month and $14.99 a month for residential customers.
Each has two plans from which to choose – basic or unlimited calling. All offer free incoming calls and calls to other CSI subscribers are also free. Other advantages are checking your voice mail and managing your account over the Internet.
For a small business, the Centrex product delivers the features of a Fortune 500 PBX with features such as auto attendant, extension dialing, conferencing, voicemail, caller ID, an incoming block of numbers (DIDs), and ease of transferring calls. All features are configurable through an easy-to-use web interface.
